Member Meetings & Activity Descriptions

Member Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of each month. Our meetings are very casual and usually last about 1 hour, 1 ½ hours at the most. The first portion of the meeting we conduct business (vote on money to be spent, go over the calendar, have announcements, etc.). Then we will either have a speaker (to speak on topics relevant to women, mothers or children), have coffee and chat time where we can get to know each other better.
In additon to our member meetings, we also offer a variety of activities throughout the month (typically about 3 per week) which include:
Mom’s Night Out takes place once a month. Each month a different member coordinates an outing: dinner, a movie, bowling, a game night at her house, or whatever fun activity she comes up with. It’s very informal and is a great opportunity to unwind while you get to know other members
Holiday Parties are generally potluck and are held during a weekday close to the holiday.
Helping Hands is a wonderful support network provided by our members for our members. There are many times when support is needed, but we do not want to ask for it. Members provide meals, baby-sitting, transportation, etc. for another member who is in need. The most common situation is when a member has a new baby or adopts, and we take turns providing the family with meals. Other situations may include surgery or major illness, loss of a loved one, etc.
Freezer Cooking This group of women get together once a month to prepare meals that go directly into their freezer. This allows them to be able to pull one of these delicious meals out of the freezer whenever they have that feeling of not wanting to cook or just don’t have time to cook one evening. Open the freezer and voila, DINNER! You will leave from one of these sessions with about 10 meals.
Service Projects We perform at least one service project each year that directly benefits children. We typically do more than one a year, and some past projects include: Cram the Van (collect school supplies for needy children), Rose Haven Women's Shelter (collected supplies for women and children and "adopted" a family at Christmas), Imagination Place (remodeled the kitchen and dress-up rooms), McGuffey's Nursing Home (visited, colored with, handed out candy and sang for residents), raised money for and participated in the AL Spina Bifida Association’s bowl-a-thon.
Dinner Tonight A volunteer host will choose a dinner recipe and post the ingredients to our group. Members will sign up to bring the various ingredients listed. They meet on the scheduled day, combine all of the ingredients, and each person goes home with "dinner tonight" ready to go in the oven. It’s a fun way to prepare dinner!
Friends Around the World Each month a different country or region is discussed. Children will learn language and culture through fun, interactive activities such as crafts, games, songs and stories as well as sample food from the various locations.
Craft Day Our Craft Coordinator will organize a craft for the children to do. Typical crafts are centered around Father's Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine’s Day, etc.. Lunch Bunch/Breakfast Bunch We meet at a local restaurant (typically with a place for the kids to play), have lunch or breakfast and chat.
Field Trips Various field trips are scheduled throughout the year. Examples included: Pizza Hut tour, Dairy Queen tour, Petco Tour, trips to various parks, McWane Center, Anniston Museum of Natural History, Chattanooga Aquarium, Pumpkin Patch, Bud’s Best Cookie Factory, etc.
Walking Group This group meets to burn some calories. In the warmer months we walk at various parks and neighborhoods and in the cooler months we head indoors. It’s amazing how much faster exercise can go when you have a great group of friends to chat with while you go!Book Clubs For kids and moms! At moms book club, the volunteer host will choose a book (at least a month in advance) and post the title. The moms will get together on the designated day to discuss the book while the kiddos play. At kids book club, a volunteer host will choose a kid-friendly book and read to the kids. This is usually followed by a craft or activity relating to the book read.
Movie Day We get together to let the kids have a little downtime. Popcorn and a kid-friendly movie make a peaceful time for moms. In the summer we also frequently attend the kid’s movie days at Premier Cinemas.
Game Day Moms have been known to sneak in a board game while the kids play. We also have game days for the kids as well!
Recipe Group A volunteer host will choose a theme (Mexican, health food, desserts, etc.) and each participant will bring a prepared dish that fits into the theme. You will sample each dish and then take home a copy of each recipe so you can make the dishes you liked at home.
Ooey Gooey Day We usually hold this event once a year at the park. There are various ooey and gooey activities for the kids to create art and get really messy! Some past activities include: glitter painting, making slime, foot-painting, finger painting with shaving cream, tie dye t-shirts, mud pit, make home-made ice cream, etc.
Playdates These are can be held in members homes but are often held in other locations such as Kidz Party Zone, Imagination Place, local parks, Noccalula Falls, Splash Pad at Lafferty’s Landing, putt-putt, Ice Cream Socials, Peace Love n Pottery, etc.. It’s just a chance for the kids to get together and have fun doing what kids do best: play!
Family Events such as picnics, bonfires and pool parties. This is a good chance for our husbands to put names with faces and meet our MOMS Club friends.
